Original plein air painting | 12×9” | oil on panel
Columbia, California
When I lived in Columbia, I regularly hiked into the manzanita-arched hillsides on the BLM property behind my house. Every year in late summer the bark begins to flake and peel, leaving bright new skin exposed. My son loved the sound of bark flaking off as he ran his hand down the trunks.
