This was painted on my first solo backpacking trek. Although I’ve been a backpacker for over a decade, I hadn’t carried oil paint into the back country until this trip. Despite the extra pounds to carry, I loved it!
Being alone in a sub-alpine basin with 13,000 foot crags for company is an empowering experience. Aside from the absolute bliss of the alpine, there is a realization that everything we experience is our own responsibility, just as we realize this in meditation. Once that knowing settles in, it becomes a profound liberation.
